Shopkeepers Competition
The shopkeeper was dismayed when a brand new business much like his own opened up next door and erected a huge sign which read BEST DEALS.
He was horrified when another competitor opened up on his right, and announced its arrival with an even larger sign, reading LOWEST PRICES.
The shopkeeper was panicked, until he got an idea. He put the biggest sign of all over his own shop--it read...
MAIN ENTRANCE.
*Thanks to Pastor Tim for this joke!*

The Parson's Ponderings: Dealing with Disappointment and Discouragement
by Rev. Michael L. White
I received some bad news last week on Monday, 23 August. The Army chaplain promotion list for the rank of Major was about to be published on Tuesday, 24 August, and my senior chaplain informed me my name wasn't on it. I say "bad news", because I thought I would be selected. However, I have learned in my lifetime that when I don't get what I want, it's because God has a better plan. I don't pretend to know what His plan for me is at this point, but I am willing to be patient and wait and see. I was disappointed, even discouraged, by the news, but I was not devastated. Life will go on, whether I serve God as a Army chaplain or as something else.
I am entitled to another look next year (April 2005), but in the interim, if God presents me with a better alternative, I'll take it. If He doesn't, then I'll wait and see if I am selected next year. If I am selected next year, since His timing is always perfect (never too early nor too late), I will believe that next year is a better year for me to be promoted than this year. If I am not selected next year, I will have to leave the Army and look for new employment. That's the rule.
I am certain God will make His plan clearer as time passes, and I will let you know when He lets me know. I am actually getting excited that He is perhaps preparing me for something new. As soon as I know what it is, I'll share it with you. In the meantime, when you experience your next disappointment and discouragement, remember this: God is just pointing out to you that He has a better plan. So, go with the flow and wait for His plan to become clear to you. I assure you, it will be even better than what you initially hoped for.
