Along with fabulous articles from renowned authors like Billy Graham, Charles Stanley, Max Lucado, and others, you can also find an occasional article from the parson of Parson Place. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention the breath-taking color photography on nearly every page. Check out the Sponsor's Spot in this issue for a link to the CFM web site.

* Have you heard? There's a new publishing company now on the scene! It's called Parson Place Press LLC. It will operate on a very small, spare-time-sort-of-scale, but it is open for business. There's a link to it in this month's issue of The Parson Place Newsletter (see the Recommeded Web Sites section) and on the Parson Place web site with more details.

* My book, Digital Evangelism: You Can Do It, Too!, is also now available for purchase in the online shops of some of the major bookstore chains. You can buy it from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, and Cokesbury, among others. Go to the Froogle web site and type in the search term, "digital evangelism", and you'll find numerous links to other online stores that carry it. If you want to get it from your local Barnes and Noble, Books-a-Million, or Cokesbury branch, or any other bookstore, for that matter, you may need to ask them to order it for you. It is also available for ordering in the United Kingdom. Just give the book sellers the book's ISBN -- 1-59581-120-6 -- to place the order from any book distributor in North America or the UK. You'll need to compare the cost of shipping versus local taxes to see which way is the better buy for you.

Driving Time

David and Bernice had just given their teenage daughter family-car privileges. On Saturday night she returned home very late from a party. The next morning her father went out to the driveway to get the newspaper and came back into the house frowning. At 11:30 a.m. the girl sleepily walked into the kitchen, and her father asked her, "Sweetheart, what time did you get in last night?"

"Not too late, Dad." she replied nervously.

Dead-panned, her father said, "Then, my precious one, I'll have to talk with the paperboy about putting my paper under the front tire of the car."

Lost and Found

My job as a land surveyor took me to a golf course that was expanding from 9 holes to 18 holes. Using a machete to clear thick brush in an area I was mapping, I came upon a golf club that an irate player must have tossed away. It was in good condition, so I picked it up and continued on.

When I broke out of the brush onto a putting green, two golfers stared at me in awe. I had a machete in one hand, a golf club in the other, and behind me was a clear-cut swath leading out of the woods.

"There," said one of the golfers, "is a guy who hates to lose his ball!"

God is Watching

The children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Catholic elementary school for lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. The nun made a note, and posted on the apple tray:

"Take only ONE. God is watching."

Moving further along the lunch line, at the other end of the table was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies. A child had written a note,

"Take all you want. God is watching the apples."

Quotable Quotes

"The man who gives in when he is wrong ... is wise. The man who gives in when he is right ... is married." (Anonymous, of course!)

"Golf can best be defined as an endless series of tragedies obscured by the occasional miracle." (Another anonymous one.)

"Your children need your presence more than your presents." (Yet another anonymous one.)

"It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation." - Herman Melville (1819 - 1891)

“All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night, in the dusty recesses of their minds, awake in the day to find it was all vanity. But the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes to make it reality.” - T.E. Lawrence

"The Christian life isn't difficult--it is impossible. If we don't know that, we will try to do things ourselves. Faith is not necessary when we think we can do it ourselves. Faith comes along when we realize that we cannot do it on our own." - Joseph Garlingen

"If you are always shouting at your children, when it's really serious, they won't h-e-a-r you. A whisper beats a shout." - Mark Victor Hansen

The Parson's Ponderings: Faith of Our Fathers
by Rev. Michael L. White

I was nine years old when my Dad accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. That event made a tremendous difference in my family. We became regular church-goers; my Dad began to read and study the Holy Bible with fervor; and we began trying to live according to the principles of Scripture. My mother had accepted Christ years earlier in her childhood, before she even met my Dad, and she had seen to it that I was in church when she could get me there, but when my Dad became a devoted Christian, it made all the difference. From that time forward, we believed in Christ and worshiped Him as a whole family. To this day, not a visit or phone conversation I have with either of my parents goes by without some mention of our faith in Jesus and some discussion of the Holy Bible. Moreover, I can never sing that old hymn, "Faith of Our Fathers", without thinking of the impact my father's faith has had on my life, not to mention his own. I am infinitely grateful to God for saving my parents' souls, and mine, and so many others I love dearly, like my wife and children. As we celebrate another Father's Day this year, I want to pause and reflect not only upon the faith of great saints of old whose deeds and personal sacrifices made faith in Christ possible for us, but I want to thank my Heavenly Father again for my earthly father, whose faith and personal devotion to Christ continues to help shape my own. I pray that my faith has been half as exemplary to my own children as my father's has been to me. Happy Father's Day, Daddy, and thanks for keeping the faith. I pray all the rest of you reading this will have a Happy Father's Day and a very Blessed Season of Pentecost/Kingdomtide, too!

This Issue's Web Tip

Have you tried the MSN Toolbar with desktop search yet? It integrates very nicely with Internet Explorer (IE) 5.01 or later, and IE doesn't have to be your default browser. Be sure to read the complete system requirements before you download it though. Once installed, you can search the web or search for a file or email on your desktop with equal ease, check your Hotmail email account, start the MSN Messenger chat software, and automatically fill forms on the web. It offers a few other nifty features, too, such as a phishing filter to protect you against unsafe sites seeking to steal your personal identify information, as well as links to news, the MSN web site, and blogging spots. It's definitely a very useful little toolbar! You can read all about it and download it from the MSN Toolbar web site.

Well, that's all there is to this issue's web tip! If you have questions, feel free to email me, and I'll do my best to give you answers. If I don't know, I can, at least, refer you to someone else who can help you.
